James Gunn Reveals New ‘Superman’ Image of Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen

Apr 28, 2025

James Gunn’s Superman will feature the debut of several popular DC characters, but one of which is someone that has not gotten a comic-accurate interpretation in decades. After making a head-scratching appearance as a CIA agent in Batman v. Superman, Jimmy Olsen is ready for his close-up on the big screen once again, this time front and center alongside his best friend, Clark Kent, who happens to be Superman. To celebrate Olsen’s anniversary, Gunn released a new image from the highly-anticipated production, featuring Skyler Gisondo (The Righteous Gemstones) as the Daily Planet journalist.
Gunn shared on X a sneak peek at the set of Superman in the Daily Planet, which features the director presumably discussing a scene with Gisondo in his Jimmy Olsen get-up. After making several unnamed appearances in the comics in the late 1930s, Olsen made his official DC debut in The Adventures of Superman radio show on Apr. 15, 1940. It’s only fitting Gunn shared a new look at the character for his 85th anniversary, especially since Superman day is around the corner and many fans are expecting another exciting peek at his DCU film. You can check out the photo below, along with the caption.

Every preview of Superman thus far has emphasized the film’s close attention to detail and comic accuracy, especially when it comes to the titular hero and his surrounding characters. Warner Bros. Exec Praises James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ in Early Reaction

Warner Bros.

As A Minecraft Movie breaks every record imaginable at the box office, Warner Bros. preps for another major blockbuster release that could eclipse the video game adaptation. Executive Mike De Luca projects big things are coming for Superman, which he believes is a “five-star” movie that lives up to the hype. In a recent interview addressing the rumors about the state of the studio, De Luca praised James Gunn’s latest superhero effort. According to the exec, the film has Gunn’s “trademark humor,” while also being “epic and visually arresting” emotional experience. The early review of Superman might come from a biased source, but his words are exciting nonetheless.

“I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it. It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional. The performances are great. It is a five-star movie to me, and I can’t wait for the world to see it. Yeah, we’re really excited about Superman, James crushed it.”
