Anthony Mackie Is Frozen Solid in New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Set Video

May 7, 2025

After the casting stunt that had millions of people staring at chairs for more than five hours, Avengers: Doomsday officially began production not long ago. There are many names from all Phases of the MCU confirmed to star in the film, one of which is Anthony Mackie, who starred in Captain America: Brave New World earlier this year. Mackie cemented himself as the new leader of The Avengers going forward, so it stands to reason he’ll be heavily involved with Doomsday’s production. Mackie took to his personal Instagram to share a new video from the set of Avengers: Doomsday, showing himself in the snow in a cold location, which could potentially mean Latveria scenes are being filmed for the upcoming tentpole.
Latveria is a fictional country that’s home to Doctor Doom in Marvel Comics, and with Doom set to be the feature villain of the 2026 Avengers film, it would make sense that the team would travel to his location. Arguably, the biggest shock announcement to come from 2024 was the news that Robert Downey Jr. would return to Marvel to play the new feature villain. This news came after Marvel Studios parted ways with Jonathan Majors, who previously was set to star opposite The Avengers as Kang the Conqueror. Downey’s return was also met with skepticism after his Infinity Saga character, Tony Stark, wrapped up a perfect arc that concluded in a meaningful death in Avengers: Endgame that helped the team save the world. It’s unclear how his transition from Iron Man to Doctor Doom will be handled, but directors Anthony and Joe Russo surely have a handle on it.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Is Coming Right After ‘Doomsday’

Avengers: Doomsday will be the first Marvel movie of 2026 on May 1, and following behind it is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will be released on July 31, 2026. Brand New Day will see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker, and it’s also been reported that Sadie Sink will join him in the film. Holland’s name was not given a chair in the Doomsday casting announcement, but after being such a central figure in the last two Avengers movies and having a deep connection with Downey’s Tony Stark, it would be shocking for him to be left out of the film.
Avengers: Doomsday will raid theaters across the globe on May 1, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates and coverage of the film.
